Yes it’s true, I’m going back to Reddit and I’m happy to go. There’s a reason it’s called the front page of the internet. We all know that Reddit is superior in every way so let’s stop pretending otherwise.
Sorry, that was clickbait! Well, partially clickbait.
I am going back to Reddit, and I think you should consider it too. Please hear me out!
I recently went to see what was happening on Reddit out of curiosity. It’s still Reddit, lol.
BUT! I’ve noticed a gradual shift in sentiment. More and more people are starting to show discontent with all sorts of things such as corporate greed, class struggle, authoritarian practices… Tons of stuff that people on Lemmy have been talking about for a long time.
To me, it seems that many of them are wanting change like many of us, but they might lack the resources or helpful assistance they need to support them further. Reddit is a hard place to escape for many.
My long-winded point: I’ve been posting every few days on topics to share my true opinions, to reply to people, and to share my contribution on politics and tech and culture, and also on the mere existence of Lemmy as a place they might feel more at home. Now obviously, I’m not trying to be a marketing arm for Lemmy. It’s not Lemmy that I give a shit about. What I give a shit about is getting more people on this side of the aisle, however you might define that.
Not everyone is a total idiot, not everyone is a bot, not everyone is defeatist. Lots of them are, but what about you and I? Did somebody tell you about Lemmy in the past, and are you better off for it? If your answer is yes, then I truly think it’s worth doing the same courtesy for potential newcomers, in your own personal way.
Instead of abandoning everyone there, let’s extend a hand instead. If they swat your hand away, they weren’t going to listen anyway.
For me it’s not only been about leaving Reddit, it’s also about educating on open source, data sovereignty, user-friendly platforms, etc. Not being a dick for the choice of platform, but being somebody that’s there to say “hey, I’ve got you”.
I hope that makes sense. Thoughts and opinions obviously welcome! Sorry again for the clickbait, I’ve never tried it before!

While still giving a dislike for the clickbait and ragebait combo, agreed that presence is needed, both to propagate one’s own ideas, and to keep competition minimally functional. In this latter point, after all, if the fediverse for some reason becomes the only solution, then it becomes the problem.
The decentralized nature of the Fediverse gives me hope that it won’t be as easily enshittified or be able to form a defacto monopoly. But we’re a far way away from that being a reality. If that happens, many of us are going to need to start the migration process all over again. I’m confident that developers passionate about FOSS and privacy, etc. , will come together as they always do.
Btw, and entering a bit on the topic of #fedigrow, a considerable chunk of the fediverse from what I can observe still is mostly flavors of the same niches few niches. If people have interest stuff from niches not yet covered here, or barely so, posting is more than welcomed.
Also someone mentioned the formation of clusters of niches in the fediverse a while back. While I can’t see that much yet, it sounds reasonable that it’d happen. So if you know the person you’re recommending the network to, it helps picking a better instance and software for his/her needs. Also having some presence in the instance to be recommended yourself helps, at least by following communities and (in microblog or hybrid platforms) people too, so you can help populate it before the person gets in.
