There’s no restriction based on professions. You just have to pay the annual membership fee, which is about $60.

Not sure if this is what they were talking about, but there are some Costcos that only sell to businesses. Have a bit of an uproar where I live because one downtown is switching to that, and there’s not many other grocery options in the area.

The regular Costco members can still shop at a business center but the merchandise is not targeted towards them.

The business centers sell things like cases of cups, plates, disposable silverware, legs, shoulders and other large cuts of meat, cases of common restaurant ingredients, salt and pepper shakers in bulk for tables etc.

We go to the business center by us every so often because they carry real American cheese in bulk, not the Kraft garbage the regular Costco has.

It used to be like that in the US a few decades ago, and then they transitioned into a “professional store hours” and “public store hours” situation. Now they’ve scrapped the restrictions entirely for the normal warehouses and in highly populated areas they built more warehouses called “Costco Business” warehouses.

In Canada, you used to have to have a public service ID or select professional societies. They got rid of that a couple decades ago. Now you pay the free for a regular or executive membership and you’re good.
