I think it’s because what defeated them was violence and “violence is bad”. Because the problem of nazism definitely could’ve been solved diplomatically… >.>
And on a related note, all of the right wing people who are proud of the US’ wartime accomplishments (especially WWII) seem to forget why the US was so good at it. Science and Engineering are the main reasons (okay, scale and being far from a home front [no disrespect Pearl Harbor] top) that the US was so impactful. It’s wild that a lot of the people who are particularly proud of developing a devastating bomb are the same people who hate science funding and science itself.
Those and an independent manufacturing / logistics capability far in excess of what the was torn economies were dwindled down to, a recent mass nationalization of infrastructure, social reform creating a dedicated and healthy populace while supporting research funding, massive independent agricultural base, independent energy supply, a military with experience in environments analogous to all fronts…
Basically everything that no longer exists in the US.
Oh and the wealthy paid taxes commensurate with the general pop…
You mean to say firing all your experienced generals and replacing them with sycophants under the direction of a department secretary hired straight from faux news isn’t the kind of decision a successful military superpower would make?!?!?
Yeah, I was much more appreciating the irony here than actually wondering. I know I can’t logic them out of a situation they didn’t logic themselves into.
Yeah, even as a kid I could see through this logic. A typical workflow for me in school looked something like this: I get bullied → I stand up for myself → the bully gets violent → I defend myself → we both go to the principal’s office and wind up suspended for the same length of time because “violence is bad.”
Meanwhile in class I was learning about how our heroic grandfathers stood up to the ultimate bullies and defeated them with… you guessed it, violence.
It made no sense to me then and it makes no sense to me now, because it’s illogical. Complete cognitive divorce between “theory” and “practice,” or “abstract book knowledge” and “real-world actions/decisions/experience.”
The entire US school system is designed around teaching you one thing while encouraging enforcing you to behave otherwise, honestly…
Conservatives can’t let people know that nazism is just a flavor of conservatism. They can’t have people openly pointing out how every genocide ever commited in human history was caused by conservatives.
Conservatives would rather burn everything to the ground than admit they are all racist, dog-fucking, traitor, pedophile bigots. It’s almost like they can feel shame. They can’t, but it almost seems like it.
They can’t have people openly pointing out how every genocide ever commited in human history was caused by conservatives.
While I’m mostly with you on hating conservatives and being against genocide, the sentence above simply isn’t true unless you consider Stalin a conservative. And arguably Mao too, although most of the people he had killed were the same ethnicity as himself. But his explicit goal was to erase an entire culture; it just happened to be the culture he originally came from. Oh an Pol Pot wasn’t a conservative, nor the Myanmar military junta.
Honestly we can trash conservatives to our hearts’ content for generally being the ones in history to support and perform genocide, but as soon as we make absolute statements like “every genocide ever committed in human history” then we start to weaken our argument, so it’s better to patch those holes now in friendly waters rather than waiting till we’re surrounded by enemies to notice them. That’s why I point it out, not to be contrarian.
That’s kind of revisionist and comes off like right-wingers claiming the nazis were socialists.
If Mao was socially conservative within the historical context, he wouldn’t have made it his entire thing to overthrow the ways of the past which he viewed as backwards and archaic. That’s the whole reason it was called the “cultural revolution.”
Nazism never went away. The Prescott Bushes and Joe McCarthies were always there, pulling the strings of the Nixons and the Reagans.
They were in your schools, in your hospitals, in your commerce. You just never saw them because they were at the upper echelons, rubbing their grubby hands together in satisfaction while looking down on you like a spider watching its prey get inextricably tangled in its web.
In other words, yeah it was on purpose. My theory is that it was their plan all along to make a resurgence now, when the last of the WWII vets and people who remember that era are either dead or in assisted living homes.
Even people who were kids during Nixon are retiring now. The new norm has shifted gradually, decade by decade, and now almost no person still working in the US is old enough to remember the FDR economy.
They played the long game, dude. This is their culminating event.
The thing they didn’t teach is what leads to nazism and how to defeat it. Makes you wonder if that was on purpose…
I think it’s because what defeated them was violence and “violence is bad”. Because the problem of nazism definitely could’ve been solved diplomatically… >.>
100%.

Yup, absolutely. If a country wanted to “win” in that way again it would basically be by doing the opposite of what the GOP does these days.

We’ll see if the AI bubble makes room for an actual Second New Deal
Please drill this into your head right now: the facts do not matter.
It’s fine to appreciate the irony, but the true prime movers are operating on a whole different level underneath what is being said out loud.
I upvoted your comment, but if you ask yourself why they hate science funding, you’ll find the answer(s) very quickly.
Yeah, I was much more appreciating the irony here than actually wondering. I know I can’t logic them out of a situation they didn’t logic themselves into.
And what caused it to rise was mass economic struggle of the working class.
And apathy from the left (Russia, KPD)

Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were all social conservatives. So were their supporters.
