This happened to my wife a decade ago. Telus wheeled and dealed and she had a signed phone contract at say $50. A few weeks in the first bill changed to $70. When she called and complained they said they had the right to review contracts and alter at any time. WTF. On too of that she lived in a deadzone of service, but Telus said it was the Apple phone and not their deadspot being the problem.
So she asked about cancellation, and they said theyd wave cancellation fees, and to payout the final invoice and send phone back. A few weeks later they sent her a $400 for early cancellation.

Being super mad obviously she told them she wasn’t paying it, they sent it to collections.

Which screwed her credit history (which was near or over 800 rating) when applying for a loan. So she talked to creditor and agreed to pay $200 for them to remove the credit blemish. Then the morons at the credit system expunged her whole profile instead of the one claim, so when she went for the loan it came back that she had null credit history-as if she were brand new to the system.

Whenever telus calls I tell the story an explain I will never use telus. Last guy couldn’t get it though. He kept saying but we give you a contract, you know what you will pay… Dude that’s what they said last time! Fuck Telus.

Telus has called me like 5 times over this summer, trying to get me to switch after trying them once last year. Despite their claims, coverage here is not what they say it is. They promised me a 30-day free trial with their SIMs, then still charged me a month. Then had the gall to keep calling me. Infuriating.

I heard a saying “a shower of bastards”, and I think that describe Telus

Strangely though their business fibre 1GB symmetric internet is pretty great. Totally different division, I presume. Telus business fibre offers up to 5 static IPs, something Shaw/Rogers still won’t offer for a reasonable price if at all to residential addresses, AFAIK.

So what provider are you using now? Ive been between Rogers, its subs, and Freedom but none are perfect.

Currently. Rogers has been slowly increasing my bills every 4months by $5 and its really annoying so I’m looking for a new provider.

The big issue is none offer what I need: low data like 10GB or less and a cheap monthly. These $60 plans for 100GB of dara arent for me

For now I’m staying with Fido (Rogers). We’re on the ~$65/mo 150 GB or whatever, but yeah it keeps creeping up. Such a lack of viable choice in Canada. :(

FYI in regards to coverage – eastern coast of Vancouver Island. Rogers/FIDO seems to have better voice/data once one is out of the main townsite, important for hiking and camping. I believe Telus/Bell has better coverage on the west side (Tofino/Ucluelet) but that is just my memory from a few years ago, may have changed since then.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the choices are terrible. I’m in ON so the coverage is decent but it has its spotty areas too. But even with Rogers I’ve experienced it so there’s no perfect solution.

$65/month is way too high IMO. The only reason I’m still with Rogers is because using their mastercard pays for the phones easily.

God I don’t miss cell service costs back home. Moved to the UK in 2020, and the costs have gone up some, but I’m still only paying £25 for 300gb/month.

Still higher than what I want to pay because I don’t need 300GB of data but yeah, thats WAY more proportionately priced.

The last time I switched to Telus, the person selling it to me lied their ass off about practically everything.

When they installed the fiber in the building it got activated with all the final paperwork.

I read it over, and ya all lies. I called them, they confirmed none of it was true.

Canceled immediately in the free cancelation window.

      Never again.
