Linux@programming.dev•KDE for People - KDE's mission is to be for everyone; So let's be pro-people instead of pro-AI.
6·13 days agoWINE and ReactOS having that statement for protection, makes sense for obvious reasons, given the nature and aim of the project. Even if, as we agree, it is totally unenforceable.
This total AI ban trend we are seeing in recent times, while similar, lacks the self protection reason and the text of the link backs it up with more abstract things such as: “erodes trust”, “makes it more difficult to review code”, “harms privacy”, etc. All good intentions, quite a show against this new type of tool (that has its problems yes), but with the only practical consequence of pushing people away.
I would prefer a set of stricter guidelines and standards, to make it easy to reject slop and bad (vibe coded) contributions.

15·13 days agoI think that contributions should be evaluated by their content, which the contributor has full responsibility, instead of trying to impose rules you can’t 100% verify just because they look good on paper.
- The patch is good (in quality terms), accept it.
- The contributor created a successive set of bad and lousy submissions? Block it for a period of time.
Putting a “ban” on how the code is generated, is just a statement of good intentions that you can’t enforce or verify.

Technology@lemmy.world•Young users ditch Google for AI, with unknown consequencesEnglish
35·13 days agoDitching Google is good, but not for AI. We should take the ditching part and redirect the young people to use other search engines.

Linux@programming.dev•KDE is actively proposing a Pro-AI contribution policy, with most rejecting any suggestions for AI use to be disclosed, or any consideration for environmental concerns
2·15 days agoTo me, it’s like discussing how much domestic abuse is allowed in a relationship.
But it is not. And a frank discussion about the subject to define what is acceptable and what is not, is key to a healthy community and project. Hardline stand on each end just make that discussion impossible, on purpose.

19·15 days agoIn my view having a healthy discussion about this is a good thing. People will always have different views in many things, and it is natural that a common ground is achieved by having a honest debate about a given subject.
With the above in mind, hardline 100% pro or 100% con points of view are usually wrong and counterproductive, and even framing the discussion that way is harmful. I hope the discussion leads to a good and reasonable outcome.
Both are fine. Is it just a matter of preference on certain decisions.

Technology@lemmy.world•People Are Pissed Off and Ready to Own Their ShitEnglish
53·18 days agoI’m literally one of those consumers that goes to great lengths to pick devices and appliances so that I really own them. I can tell you that right now it is harder than ever.
These movements really have to put some weight, otherwise nothing will change.
