Depends what you mean by “fine”. Tor will still guarantee anonymity through the three-hop model, and no they cannot see the contents of your traffic. But it really depends on your risk tolerance. The real problem in this scenario is traffic analysis.

I’m not sure how the video stream packets look in that scenario but they may still be able to infer through protocol or density that some video is streaming and block that. Again, without knowing what is in the stream.

But you have to be cautious about other attackers in the network targeting your device. Those risks can circumvent all sorts of safety you might think you have.

It is at least positive how forthright they are about its use in their process.

Sort of, but it isn’t in my view very well deserved. There is certainly quite a bit of FUD here in the fediverse, but sometimes it feels manufactured.

The CEO has made, and partially walked back, some statements favoring right wing groups, but it was mostly antitrust stuff, so I think it is mostly rich person doing rich person things.

But they claim to be politically neutral, and they are a Swiss company which already puts it in a tier above anything hosted in many other western countries.

The services themselves are technically very well done, and the applications for using them are also very good. They have a new drive cli which is good. The password manager is great. VPN is good too. The mail bridge they provide is also very good if you want to use third party mail apps but with the benefit of their encryption.

There are other services that compete strongly on each of those and more, but I don’t think any do when considering the full suite.

I think Proton is quite good. They lack one feature that I need, which is integrated contacts on mobile, but once they add that, it will be a complete package.

My guess is most are very young. Goes to show our civil liberties worldwide, especially since 9/11, have eroded tremendously. Young people have grown up in a world where privacy is a joke and government spying is a foregone conclusion.

Sorry but you’ll need to hold the L on this one. If I encrypt a message with public key material for which the only private key material that can decrypt the message is in only my possession, it doesn’t matter if the message passes centralized servers.
