  • If a scam can get through all that, then it can get through your little kiddy model.

I use FastMail which has a reputation for decent spam filtering, and spam messages still fall through. I also have AI agents process my emails and it correctly detects those messages as spam.

why is the best interface for it an llm?

Because you can talk to it like a person and it’s not bounded by a GUI’s features. Compared to humans they’re more readily available and you’re not risking your relationship if you need to ask something you wouldn’t want to ask a person

Why not just have a big red “scam warning” banner?

Because we already have those and they aren’t reliable enough

How do you define whether or not you should trust the AI in such a way that someone with cognitive impairment can apply it?

When in doubt ask a human when one becomes available

  • My ideal laptop right now is the Framework 13 Pro which looks like a massive upgrade over their previous models but the configuration I want is like $2000 and it doesn’t ship until October anyways. There’s other configurations for $1000 or less refurbished then I could upgrade parts over time but I would end up replacing everything anyways. Repairing my Macbook M1 is also something I’m considering so I have an appointment tomorrow with the Apple store, but I’m guessing the entire logic board would have to be replaced which is expensive for a laptop that’s next on Apple’s axe list and is 3 generations older than the oldest laptops they sell, and while I like the laptop a lot the lack of repairability and official Linux support is really annoying as well, and I want a working laptop with a swappable SSD for security/business reasons anyways. Getting a cheap backup laptop that’s reliable is something I’ve been wanting for a while and would buy me more time to decide on a better laptop and find paid work.

  • For the M* series I haven’t noticed wifi/bluetooth issues but it’s an entirely different platform that requires a custom kernel and it has a different set of quirks. Overall the hardware is really nice aesthetically and the processing power is good, but you have to put up with Apple’s bullshit.
