  • I spent the last 8 hours writing a zine so i’m a bit worn out. too worn out for proper capitalization while typing on a steam deck. i’ve been writing about how excited i was between 1994 and 2004 to be able to get online and explore. i wasn’t guided. i wasn’t on any kind of tour. i was out there finding my own way and learning what i could from the people willing to share. that was MY algorithm. when people use the words “my algorithm” in regards to social media today they’re telling themselves a lie they’ve been pushed towards… it’s not self-determined but dictated. this has been apparent to many people. some lucky people saw it early and noped out. i read their reasons why and followed because i agreed. there’s not individual algorithms, just THE algorithm. what we still have is a choice to allow our brains to parse it. i feel bad for the people who never got to experience how amazing the internet once was and i hope those of us who knew are able to hold onto those memories and show people what it was like so people are willing to keep fighting to keep it a network of computers for the people instead of it being a network of people for machines.

on coolios album, it takes a thief ( i might be wrong ), there was an interlude with a quote ill always remember. “as much as i hate this mother fucker i love this mother fucker.” it was about a ghetto but i say that now about the internet all the time.

excuse me, i have to go look at clown porn now. not for sexual purposes though. i just want to relive the good ol’ days and laugh about something that’s not due to a nervous reaction in response to our impending doom.

Edit: Now that I’ve slept and sobered up I came back here to delete this but I’ll just leave it. I didn’t re-read it because it’s probably corny like everything I put into the zine I was working on earlier. Just got all fired up and felt it. Either way. Thanks for reading it. Gonna try to keep to my policy of not posting if I’ve been drinking.
