I do think it’s fun, but I’m definitely not interested in implementing byzantine complexity. When I have something I want to selfhost I pick a solution that’s reasonably easy and works reasonably well, and then enjoy that it’s working.

Depending on the direction of wind, an open window might blow the poop smell into the rest of the house/apartment even harder. Just close the damn door FFS.

It does in fact not have a fan, and frankly I doubt that a would keep the smell completely out of the hallway if you leave the door open.

Locking the door is the quick and easy way to signal that the room is occupied, knocking and/or asking and waiting for an answer would invariably take longer and create uncomfortable situations whenever someone doesn’t remember or doesn’t have the patience to wait for the answer or is just visiting and assuming that everyone locks the door when they use the bathroom.

How does she know about that, though - are they the kind of couple who don’t lock the bathroom when they’re going about their business?

I’m sure lots of Adolfs and Hitlers were bummed out after WW2 started (definitely after it ended), but such is the way of the world.
