Rocking an X260 myself. Picked it up for something like $100 on eBay a few years ago and it just keeps on ticking.

I feel like an old ThinkPad is like a right of passage on Linux. Just about everyone I know who uses Linux has had one at some point or another.

Okay, this is legitimately cool as heck. This finally helps me wrap my head around the “everything is a file” concept in Linux. Of course it can just copy the executable to memory for later reference. That’s how the system would not completely have a meltdown when you do live updates.

MC:LA is a mixed bag. If you enjoyed 3 and wanted more of that, it delivers on that dream. It also just had a very enjoyable and challenging story progression. Not all the gameplay compares to modern games though and there are some nice-to-haves that just weren’t the standard yet, so don’t expect a completely smooth experience.

I should get around to booting it up on an emulator. It might be up to it these days.

Thanks for the detail. You’re spot on that the PC port is definitely more of a priority on their successful titles. What I would give for MC:LA on PC.

Not saying you should or shouldn’t buy it, but their track record is consistently 1-2 years.

This has been massively improved over the years with the introduction of Exobiology. Just about any new player can get into a ship worth a few mil and be collecting hundreds of millions of credits within a few hours without the need to consult a spreadsheet.

You certainly can min-max far beyond that point as you mentioned with external tools, but the feeling of ships or mission types being inaccessible is pretty much gone.

As an aside, I’m currently working on a guide to solve many of the issues you’re describing. Right now, it’s for my personal squadron, but I plan to expand this to a public sister site eventually.

For anyone who wants to play an actually developed space game that has many (not all) of the features of SC, I recommend checking out Elite:Dangerous. It was a fully released game 10 years ago and is still receiving content updates regularly.

I wish I had advice. This game came in a bundle with my 4070 and I’ve only ever played it with this card.

This was the first game I played with raytracing and they nailed it first try. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else use it so well yet. There are so many scenes that look like promotional renders, but then you can just go walking around in it.

Not to mention an amazing story I wasn’t at all prepared for. We could definitely use more games like it.

That’s the trick, though. With these patterns, the camera doesn’t even recognize that there’s a car there at all.

I don’t know about your work, but at my job, there are a few things that I’ve told my boss that I’m simply bad at or don’t feel confident in doing. Sometimes being bold and honest can work in your favor. Doesn’t apply to all situations though.

I always love it when people refer to “this ending” or “this scene” as if everyone is supposed to know what this blurry still is supposed to be from. Even if it was a video, that still doesn’t tell me what it’s from.
