I think that’s possible for some industries, particularly office bound areas like software and finance. Manufacturing, mining, maintenance, logistics, etc. all require human hands and minds 24/7, regardless of what marketing wanks say.

Once the “AI” industry leaves the subsidized-use stage this all falls over. Once users have to pay the actual energy and overhead costs per token “AI” use is gonna plummet.

Adding security, compatability, and vendor lock-in issues in exchange for convenience is not a good thing. Remember ActiveX and Silverlight? They forced users into uning IE. I am still finding industrial applications whos only config page is some ancient, IE only, nightmare.

All of these wed based uber-projects are built on Chrome. This is bad. This gives more control to google and strengthens their strangle hold over web technologies.

Drone (quad copters) motors are an entirely different beast from normal AC electric motors used in industry. The core is a stack of stamped steel lamination that are ~30mm wide, special dies would need to be manufactured for those. They require special machines to wind because the stator is inside the rotor and it is so small. They need crazy small ball bearing that are only manufactured overseas.

And the same goes for the electronics. No one In Canada manufactures micro-controllers, MEMS sensors, or power electronics that would be needed for the flight controllers and motor drives.

It would be like manufacturing an entire line of 100% Canadian home appliances, there are 1000 sub-parts that we just do not make here.

We don’t have the facilities to manufacture drones, the flight controllers, motors, and carbon fiber would all need to be imported.

Canada needs to start manufacturing full stop, once we have some manufacturing independence from the USA and China “trade war” will not be the threat that it is now.

Any device in your house that has a network connection and requires an online account is spying on you, full stop. The question is how much.

The only thing I have a hard time finding now is Canadian fruit. It’s early for apples but even pears and peaches all seem to be from the US lately. I’ve been grabbing what ever is available from South America.

Making consumer hardware again will mean retooling and I’d be willing to bet that data centers will be able to swapl their software to cloud based desktops/gaming a lot faster than hardware manufactures.
