3 days agoI thought (and still do) Kamala was the best chance at the time and circumstance, but I could tell that it would be a heavy lift for her to succeed. Enough Indies and Republicans bought into the obvious lies from the GOP campaign and nearly every incumbent party was being voted out all over the world so I also saw it coming. Especially so, when my feed filled up with tons of hope-ium from progressive pundits and influencers. Outside of perhaps the late great Dolly Parton, I don’t think anyone would have beaten the GOP candidate in 2024.
Neither of them would have won either, especially at that moment in time. If we were to have an election today or even last year, Newsom totally could have won, but that summer the GOP candidate was already ascendant in an environment that organically (gullible and cynical voters/media ) and artificially (money & EC) made it so he would win.
You don’t know me, so don’t do this “sheep” thing with me. There was only one week that summer I thought a Democrat could win that election. I hoped I was wrong, but I wasn’t. 2016 definitely taught most of us that electability was not a science. We’re all in politics, just some of us are unwilling participants.
