The current VIA long-haul fleet is 70 year old equipment. It’s getting increasingly expensive to maintain, and if it isn’t replaced it will become almost impossible to keep them safely operating.
Walmart was also telling their employees in some states how to apply to food banks and other social supports, because they refused to pay their workers adequately.
A very skilled diplomat would know how to do that would they not?
Unless they are also a skilled criminal psychologist, I doubt there’s a way to get to an acceptable outcome with Trump’s gang of liars and thieves.

That’s been the mindset of these business “leaders” for a few decades already.
The difference is now they have a tool that promises them that they can eliminate workers at an increasingly rapid rate.
Of course that’s a false promise, but once they realize that, a helluva lot of damage will have been done.

How do you “succeed at negotiating” with a country that is demanding you give up your sovereignty and allow then to do whatever they want? One whose leadership can’t accept the concept of a mutually beneficial result?

The problem is, Trump isn’t causing all this chaos by himself, and those other bastards will still be around after his funeral.
Shifting your purchasing to Canadian stores still helps employ Canadian workers.
But if you are only able to boycott one American store, Walmart is the most abusive of the options. They mistreat their employees, their suppliers and the local economies where they operate - and have done for decades.
As a compromise, Costco does have a lot of Canadian products available. And several of their Kirkland branded products are Canadian made (at least in the Canadian market).
Kirkland toilet paper and shampoo are 2 Canadian made items that I can see from where I’m sitting.
It’s a common topic of conversation in the grocery store aisles and in the coffee shops.
Nobody is happy about how Trump’s America is trying to fick over our country.

The brand is Loblaws, but the contents of the package could be from anywhere.
And a loophole in the labeling laws allows identifiers like “made for loblaws inc” or “imported by loblaws” without actually identifying where it was made.
They are still labeling stuff, but even then it’s not always perfectly clear. Some things are “made in canada from domestic and imported ingredients”, some are “processed in Canada”, and others are full-on “product of Canada”.
But even with that, it’s still impossible to know who owns those factories.
I just go with Peter Gzowski’s saying: “as Canadian as possible, under the circumstances”.
“Product of Canada” means the manufacturing happened in Canada and the majority of ingredients are of Canadian origin. It does not have any relevance to who owns the company.
For me , purchasing decisions happen on a sliding scale with “product of Canada, Canadian owned company” at the top of the scale, and “made in USA” at the bottom.
But between those extremes there are things like: “made in Canada by foreign owned company”, “made using Canadian ingredients”, and “made in any country that isn’t the USA” which can be acceptable choices if a better category isn’t available.
Ethical shopping sure is exhausting.
Doing the right thing is seldom the easiest path, but it is the right thing to do.

Trump cannot force Canada to follow his preferred naming convention, however.
Trump cannot force anyone outside of the USA to respect his childish renaming bullshit.
He can’t even force Americans to play his stupid game, though I’m sure a bunch if them will happily play along.
Sure, but if you want actual high-speed passenger rail, the track needs to be straight and level.
The current freight tracks are as level as possible, but to achieve that, they follow the terrain, leading to some very twisty lines that require lower speeds.
Simply twinning those won’t get near as much of an improvement for passenger rail as is needed.
