I agree the job he’s attempting to do is very difficult. The negotiation terms were so obviously unacceptable that maybe we shouldn’t have given up the digital services tax? Maybe we shouldn’t have immediately caved?
It’s true that lack of capitulation on these things would have now looked to have brought about the unacceptable terms, but we would be exercising that sovereignty.
My point wasn’t that he should have accepted the terms, but that a “super skilled diplomat” would have achieved more.
