  • My first time traveling internationally, I was by myself at Gatwick airport. I saw the signs with arrows pointing one way for “UK, Channel Islands, and EU” and another way for “All Other Countries” or something like those. I misunderstood that as being for what your destination was, like people simply connecting in London on their way to some other part of the world, but not leaving the airport, needed to follow the second sign. It was only as I got into the lines that I realized the difference was not the destination but what paper you carried. I think since then in other countries I’ve seen them explicitly include “Passports” on those signs, which is clearer.




  • They kind of died for a little while. I remember seeing Weird Al talking about how they didn’t make any music videos for one of his albums, I think mid-/late-’00s. Then when his next album came around YouTube had made them so important that they made some sort of video for every song on that album. They weren’t all fully produced like in the heyday of MTV, but they wanted to have something to upload.
