3·8 hours agoIf they do it, they do it, if they don’t they don’t. Like it probably the best ending of war for us considering our elites are cumming at the thought of handling r*ssia everything. Would be bad for baltics.

1·3 days agoUSAID was a very real CIA front. Can you separate
art from the artistwhich programs were really beneficial, and which weren’t? I can’t and taking aid from possibly poisoned source isn’t so great of an option. Obviously possibly bad help better than none and trump’s motivation to close it isn’t clear for me nor do I want to try to decipher what that person thought at the time.

3·4 days agoComparing incomparable things and stating that they are smiilar in any way is beyond regarded. Existential war and authoritharian(-ish) regime aren’t the same. USAID, the CIA front one?

1·4 days agoTime is worth more than fake legitimacy
Heavily depends, for m*scovians it isn’t. They rarely work by pragmatic reasoning, if they did we wouldn’t have had this war at all.
Capability matters as much as raw numbers do. What even is a theory of victory at this point?
Overhelm what little defence still there (yeah there is a projection of power and “we are stronk” vibes but really most critical parts of the frontline aren’t in a good position and recieve little attention because everything is gray area and there is no sexy videos to make), regular terror attacks that destroy limited civilian infra that still holds (energy generation suffered a lot in these years and DTEK are miracle workers, but they can’t make something from nothing and a lot of civilian economy is dying) so they hope that this winter they succeed and Ukraine capitulates. Also our leadership already is ready to capitulate for a long time, like all those ceasefire agreements that Ze proposes they are in essence capitulation, just not on the terms that r*ssians find agreeable.
Infiltration - understood that it looks like progress in a war where not much else is going well for you. But it’s also not compatible with their war aims.
Infiltration is a single part of the working strategy, it’s not just infantry infiltration and that’s it. Infantry infiltrates and blocks/kills infantry, then pilots move in, then heavier equipment. It doesn’t always work, but it works in general.
I don’t think the average Russian is a mindless tank mine runner.
Nobody cares about what average r*ssian is or isn’t. Suicide runners is part of what they do, mines are activated remotely, so a runner have no say in it, lol. Again you are under impression that they prosecute war reasonably and pragmaticly, they aren’t.
Obviously my opinions are biased by both hate and limited to bambas point of view.

Technology@lemmy.world•Chinese humanoid robots smash human records in 100m sprint and high jump at Beijing robot gamesEnglish
1·5 days agoWell, you actually need exits unless your plan always was ‘die in a bunker without exits’.
hover drones aren’t all that cheap and require either very good
crpagnss antenna, or some kind of visual inertial odometry. Or you’ll get althold at best, which isn’t really hovering more like flying with the wind. Flying drones are effective because they are cheap, hovering drones (the multi-use ones) are prone to dying to kamikadze drones, they are big, loud, hot, and not very good at transporting things compared to rovers (logistics as you mentioned), one successfull delivery by rover compares to 10-20 deliveries by flying drone.Still not clear to me how exactly flying drone superiority when traversing hard terrain = bipedal robots are a good idea.

Technology@lemmy.world•Chinese humanoid robots smash human records in 100m sprint and high jump at Beijing robot gamesEnglish
1·5 days agoYou don’t really ‘need’ to open the door, it’s enough to destroy all exits. Question is how cheap you can make biped drone and how cheap you can make a small rover capableof moving 10-15 kilos of explosives. Rover can be made as cheap as <$500 or so.
Artillery includes rocket artillery, but even ‘regular’ gun artillery can shoot for tens of kilometers with specialised shells, while being mobile at that.
anecdote
I’ve been of the opinion that arty is basically guns but big nothing special about it, but whitnessing modern artillery piece work changed it considerably, while yes they are just big guns, but they are big guns. Like you feel it in your bones when it shoots.

I’m sticking with KDE because I like to have some say in how my computer behaves, like I prefer to have a sidepanel with useful things and not top panel with calendar. I also like to have window buttons like minimize, maximize, close, pin, etc.

1·6 days agoObjects are carried by UGVs, they can carry 200-300 kilograms while being pretty small, small UGVs can carry up to 100 kilos with size of ~1m in every dimension. Unless you can explain to a very expensive and smart robot what you need to rotate and where and how to operate tools given, you’ll need a very competent pilot for these robots which with high probability would still be worse than dumbest of humans because they lack agility and require a lot of supportive infra to operate. Rich nations probably would try to make humanoid robots (like they did with robodogs) with questionable success.
