It would seem far more sensible to me for these companies to have curated a crop of small companies to experiment and fail with what works and what doesn’t where things can be automated, then buy up and replace components as they went along. It would just match their track record better.

Yeah I saw the potato/ tomato comment. If you just getting going and need quick-reward for time invested, you really can’t beat kale and mustard greens.
