I waited quite a while before buying an EV. The wife wanted a Tesla but I couldn’t stomach buying from Musk so we have a Chinese one. Cheaper so it wasn’t that much of an investment and comparable to most non EV alternatives.

As they sell them in Europe we can be sure that that meet the more stringent European standards too. The idea that Chinese vehicles are all crap has passed its use by date.

Isn’t it just that when the Chinese recognised that they needed to dominate and innovate in the car market all the other manufacturers doubled down on doing business as usual? That the Chinese have a dynamic, robotic car industry with a 1 billion person market is really going to make it difficult to compete.

The Chinese market isn’t perfect by a long stretch as they don’t respond to market signals very well hence the over supply of ICE vehicles because their population has gone EV. That means they have a lot of ICE vehicles on their hands. Especially since Trump closed the Straight of Hormuz.

It’s just symptomatic of the destruction of social and diplomatic capital (pardon the cold calculating economic word) that this old demented fools is engaged in. His economic destruction and greed and theft is another story.

There’s a TV show on the ABC in Australia called Planet America that analyses presidential elections for Australians. Since Demented Don’s ascension it hasn’t stopped yet. Just too much to discuss.

What you say about local names is correct, however the issue is that Demented Don has just decided that this is a good way to punish Canada. It is still surprising that a president can make such a change by executive order and there is no uproar in the US.

When is an 8 year old considered legally competent to sign legal documents? Not in Australia and I thought not in the US.

Isn’t this just common practice? It’s called load shedding.

You actually need to have your own servers or actively use multiple platforms as well as backup your data. No platform is forever and some are only there at a whim. Google has a bad habit of unpredictably locking up your data too.

I checked the plans and the standing charge increased so unless you have a really large usage it probably won’t save anything and could cost you a lot.

Sounds like US companies hacking Russian companies engaged in hacking. What’s the likelihood of rogue operators getting loose under the US umbrella? It certainly fits with the Trump model of making money.

It’s assuming that the users actions are in control of the platform. The platform generates a lot of plausible output that, if incorrect or misleading, is not easily distinguished from truth. Who is responsible?

“the person controlling” becomes a bit murky as the person who provides the platform may be judged as controlling it, the user may be controlling it. The courts could be busy.

My worry is card theft. Using a a card with a low limit or a debit card on an account that doesn’t have much money in it seems the way to limit exposure. All the accounts are legitimate in your own name.

The whole idea that your data can be sold by a middleman or anyone also seems on the nose but that’s the way it is.

A good reason to not use your primary credit card as who knows who has access to this data. A debit card linked to a burner savings account is probably best.

This has been talked about for years and about how exposed SCADA is. I just assumed that it was fixed/isolated years ago. The fix appears to have been to stop talking about it.
