This is a change for the better, and it would be better still to not have arbitrary limits in place. However, considering who is in control of the FBI right now, I can’t help but feel that this is a positive change made for all the wrong reasons.

It’s a hobby, and most of the reason why is because it’s fun to get it all set up and working exactly the way you want.

I think of it like this:

Why would anyone spend all the time and money to build a hot rod when they could just drive a sensible Toyota Corolla?

I never need to worry because every container and lid is the same. Sometimes I need to use 2 containers for one thing, but that is a small price to pay to never need to hunt for lids

• Were you always a doorknob, or is this some kind of witch’s curse situation?
• If you were always a doorknob, how did we meet and what was our first date like?
• If this is some curse, what did you do that warranted polymorphism, and how do we change you back. (Would you even want to go back?)
• Could I be cursed to be the door that you’re installed in?
• How would intimacy work between us? I’m simply not creative enough to incorporate a doorknob into this
• Being presumably immortal as a doorknob, or at the very least having a much longer lifespan than us mortals, how would you move on after old age claims me?

I maintain that this should be the default behavior and the AI be opt-in

It usually happens in 2 steps.

First step is that everything gets connected to the LAN and you can only access the PLC network from within the building’s network. Then some time later, management finds out that keeping someone on-call to go out costs a fortune, so they request that access be made so they can make the change from anywhere.

The IT team argues security, but no new hardware can be provisioned and a developing a new process is too hard. Then the magical phrase is uttered: “Just make it work”. So IT punches a hole in the firewall, adds a NAT rule, and job done.
