Not sure if you haven’t noticed, but go try to by tech right now. Ask Apple how much they are raising prices regardless of where it’s being sold at. Tariffs in the US absolutely will and do harm global prices, and you’d be completely out of touch to not think that. But thanks for the ‘hurr hurr I am not from the US’ excuse.

It already is, especially at the entry level, which is a massive problem. You went to college, have the education but don’t have the skills, and an AI bot can do essentially 80% of your work, with little of the cost. Think about all the people already putting websites, marketing, images together that otherwise you would need to pay someone for. No need to pay for them, even if they do a better job, because most of the time you aren’t looking for 100% when 80% will do. That’s the unfortunate reality that we all live in.

I mean at this point people are looking for connections, so that bot who will do basically whatever you say and stroke your ego, sure seems like something ‘better’ than actually going out and being rejected. There likely is going to be a point in the future where people have more ‘augmented friendships’ than actual friendships.

Why? AI and technology in general absolutely replaces human labor. For me, the hate is that is coming extremely rapidly and there is little thought from anyone about what’s going to be next. A post scarcity society is inching ever closer, and individuals are just pissed about the system, governments can’t do anything, and the owners are figuring out how to monetize it all. Seems like we are cooked if we don’t all start working on ideas of what society looks like when very few need to actually ‘work’, or a larger portion of society cannot work. Because even without AI or technological advancements, the population is rapidly aging and simply will not be able to work.

Technology has always replaced humans though. That’s ultimately the point. The problem becomes when there aren’t alternatives for humans to do but we still live in a capitalistic and consumeristic society.

I think everyone want’s their lives to be easier, but they also want to be able to eat, survive and thrive.

Yes, we all know that he is the mayor of NYC, not the governor of NY. However the mayor of NYC is often seen as wielding as much power as the governor, hence why there are always comparisons, and they are valid when looking at larger approval ratings of policies. If this was some DSA mayor of a small city in the middle of nowhere, there wouldn’t even be a news story about it. Hell, there are many very liberal mayors in California, and they are hardly talked about, for the exact same reason.

In some states (like mine), they shove these laws allowing access into omnibus must pass bills, and since representatives cant vote down on them, you basically would have to vote everyone out. Better ideas is to show up at every city and county meeting, with your community members and make such noise about it, that they have to do something about it so they can’t keep hiding behind under the counter deals.

You could go to city and county meetings and help get these things banned altogether. Legal and a much more effective way to do things.

Yep, while being a vigilante and likely getting caught get’s headlines, the better action is use your legal rights, show up to city, county and state meetings and get them banned all together. Getting your representatives to answer to the people is the best course of action and always the most productive one long term for actual change.

It’s a big talking point. Mayor of NYC is basically seen as wielding equivalent power to the state governor, so it’s a popular comparison, and shows that Memdani’s politics which work well for a urban liberal city don’t scale to state wide policies, which is quite common in the US. The real power and show that Dem politics are changing is if Memdani’s approval increases state wide and more DSA members win elections across the US in November. It seems like in very strong Dem districts this is possible, but in toss up, or weaker Dem districts, the centrists Dems are the ones that have been winning primaries.

Except it’s only for NYC, for the rest of the state his approval ratings are actually going down. That’s common though. Urban liberal areas usually think positively of liberal politicians, but when you add in rural areas, their approval ratings drop dramtically. Basically nothing has changed, even with someone as well liked as Mamdani.

It’s funny, if you have a generation that hasn’t ever needed to use Windows, wasn’t trained on it, pretty hard to knock them for it. It would be the same thing as taking Windows users and dumping them on Mac, or worse, dumping them into a rando Linux distro and saying ‘good luck, why do you suck at this’. I’m not sure about that. I have been using Graphene for a bit, and its surprising due to Google just how much stuff breaks and simply doesn’t work or fails silently under Graphene. It feels like one of the old school Custom ROMs which is great, but not on your daily driver phone.
