  • What is an OS? is Android an OS or just an application layer? Because most of its deep close-to-metal components are not maintained by Google.

What is “developing”? is keeping things stable “developing”? I actually wish Google stopped releasing breaking changes…

IMHO, I actually think Android would be a better off if Google stopped experimenting with it, “developing” it, and adding stuff nobody asked for.

  • I had heard the “PostmarketOS” name in the past but it never sparked my interest, the name made me think it was an OS made for some old obscure hardware that I’m likely to not own or that I would not be able to buy anymore. Either that, or a distro meant for old PCs.

I just found out that it comes shipped in PinePhones and that it’s actually a modern OS not necessarily constrained by a specific line of legacy hardware.

I think it’s better a name with no implicit meaning than a name with a misleading meaning. All names are obscure when they just appear, it’s not like “PostmarketOS” was such mainstream name.

  • I wouldn’t say I really care if the “community” is big or small (it’s also a bit unclear what you mean exactly, do you just mean user adoption?)… but I care about Linux (and in general, open source alternatives) being real options when it comes to hardware support, compatibility with services I might want to use, etc.

I don’t think you can have proper “progress” in those areas without having Linux be a recognized mainstream system. Like say… banks are unlikely to make an authenticator app for non-Android Linux phones if non-Android Linux phones are not mainstream, for example.
