For servers, admins moved from hole-ridden garbage like sendmail to stuff that was designed with security in mind like postfix. However, for desktop software and home stuff, there was never much of a need, so a lot of the biggest companies have cultures of extremely sloppy security practices in shipped software. And it’s slated to get worse with AI adoption…
