unless there is like some standard phenomena you could measure, like electrical activity in the brain corresponding to pain. but that doesn’t necessary translate to people’s perception of pain, it would just be a measurement of activity in their brain during pain stimulus.
further, pain comes in so many types, varieties, and time frames. it’s very diverse. sometimes a lower amount of pain is worse, if it’s more universally distributed or like throbbing, than a singular acute sharp sensations, etc.
but all i can say is I’ve been hospitalized multiple time and the medical staff have been repeatedly shocked I’m not reporting anything other than mild discomfort and have accused me of underreporting pain.
