Quack doctors blame their reckless, pseudo-scientific negligence on… [checks notes]… Iran.

A single clinical trial of 40 children in Iran, published in 2006, might have wrongly swayed medical evidence in favour of using Prozac (fluoxetine) to treat depression in children and adolescents, a group of researchers say.

You’re getting downvoted but it’s true

There is two solutions to depression, boredom and conversation. I genuinely believe if people were left to their own devices free of the societal stress of performance and given the ability to socialize as they please they’d work through depression at their own rate.

Humans are meant to be lazy and think and talk, on our own schedule. Therapy can help, medication can allow one to emotionally shut down but they won’t recover. You need rest, relaxation and relief from stressors. Get bored and chat at your own pace preferably with kind and intelligent people, I genuinely believe nothing will heal you better.

It worked for me. I don’t think you should be on it permanently, but it does help.

Yes, as a temporary means there’s no problem. It’s the idea that depression can be treated with drugs, when depression is caused by real life problems that must be addressed, often due to unsafe caregivers.

Oof I was prescribed Prozac when I was 14 or 15 a year or two before this study. It’s the only time in my life I was ever suicidal. I’m happy for those it works for but, it literally almost killed me.

My doctors response to my side effects? “That shouldn’t happen, let’s increase the dose.” Literally would not let me off it. I ended up stepping myself down and holy fuck what a miserable experience. Like being a teenager isn’t hard enough?!

I started mine as a teenager, and if I stop taking it, I become irritable and violent/aggressive.

We have a teenager who experiences the same. Prozac has been very helpful. Lexapro also worked but was too sedating.
