    Y’know, it’s funny, but I can’t recall ever having heard even one thing I would consider positive about fraternities in the US, and now I discover them tangled up in this matter too. Why are they allowed to continue to exist, when their whole purpose seems to be manslaughter, rape, defamation, and alcohol abuse?

      They are in large part social clubs for the rich ruling class families to send their kids to in order to gain connections to other rich families. Which explains why they act this way and why the repercussions are so often minimal. There are other types of frats that aren’t exactly like that but this describes the bulk of them

      Key words “seems to be”. The primary purpose is just to hang out, drink, party, but they also do philanthropy fundraising and community service. But that doesn’t make the national news.
