Protest against the Omarchy/Omacom Foundation and the tech companies and executives funding far-right open source.

That still doesn’t really address my point.

Whether there are two alternatives or two thousand doesn’t change what using the software means. If someone prefers Omarchy’s defaults, setup or workflow, that’s enough of a reason to use it.

And if it’s really “just Linux with a few dotfiles added”, that makes the idea that using it is some meaningful political endorsement even harder to take seriously.

      To frame it better:

Let’s say I cloned arch, changed the default wallpaper to a swastika, put up a blogpost saying “Heil hitler”, and then suddenly got over 50X donations than an actually useful and different OS.

Since last year, Linux mint got $280k donations. Omarchy in the last few months got 15 MILLION. Linux mint maintains 2 distros, and 1 desktop environment, and is basically the gold standard for newbie friendly distros. Omarchy is a few dotfiles and a pile of nazis.

Don’t forget Hyprland which is apparently even more problematic

            From what I remember;

Someone in the hyprland discord kept getting misgendered so they put their pronouns in their profile. At some point a mod then changed them to who/cares.

When this came to Vaxry’s attention he said something to the affect of “I don’t care, sort it out yourselves”.

Someone from redhat then either complained or was a member of the freedesktop CoC and he got banned.

Now freedesktop is in an awkward position of one of the biggest wayland DE’s no longer being allowed to contribute to the Wayland spec.

Ah, that’s not good at all. I did read in the article or webpage or whatwver that hyprland was “banned for allowing transphobia” or something along those lines after writing the comment. Thanks for the extra context tho!

And this fascinating thought experiment relates to Omarchy how?

If someone prefers Omarchy’s defaults, setup or workflow, that’s enough of a reason to use it.

And if I find out they’re a Nazi, that’s enough reason not to. And in this case there’s so little friction and it’s so simple to not use it, that it’s a no brainer.

If I can avoid supporting a Nazi this easily, without altering a single noticeable thing about my life, it would be irresponsible not to.

      Do you understand now?

There is a level of friction associated with changing anything like this for ideological reasons, and everyone has to have their own ways of deciding which ones are worth pushing against, according to them.

“Avoid the Nazi that puts out a slightly modified version of Arch,” is just a no brainer. It takes no effort or energy whatsoever to avoid having that in your life.
