I’m considering changing from mullvad to nym. (Let me know if this is a good idea in general). But I’ve seen in some forums for nym that it doesn’t work for some streaming websites.
Hence, if anyone who uses nym has used it for streaming please let me know if I should stick with mullvad?
Streaming is one of the things I do with the VPN, and would like to use a VPN that is similar to mullvad when it comes to privacy. I also use it for direct downloads.
Also, FMHY (free media heck yeah).
Nothing is similar to mullvad.
I would not switch to nym from mullvad without a very good reason and understanding of how to mitigate differences.
What are you trying to accomplish by switching?
Not a major reason, but I got curious when it was mentioned in this video. https://youtu.be/7UmyDGjxO_s
Yeah, if your concern is privacy and security I wouldn’t switch to nym over mullvad. Mixnets have many more points of trust to establish or for an attacker, to undermine.
There are specific times when a person might choose a mixnet but those are relatively low stakes situations such as “I might go to several websites all using the same cdn at a time when I’m the only person using my particular vpn proxy and that cdn could associate my browsing habits between the various sites”, like in the video, but it’s not what anyone should be choosing when they’re imagining a powerful agency kicking in the door of their vpn proxy provider and trying to force them to install a tracking system.
Also the situation wherein your choose a mixnet over something else are mitigated by clearing your cookies and closing your browser, using container tabs, etc.
I found the Nym apps to not be stable enought for me to use. I don’t personally recommend. Also I couldn’t find any up-to-date audits on their website (only ones from 2-3 years ago).
