What’s the problem? I thought privacy was a small price to pay for “safety?”
Sounds like that Kirk guy on guns.

We’re saying the same things, just I’m saying keep physical as an option too as it has been given the entanglement in ownership.
And the same argument can be used for archival hosting too. You say we can’t expect physical to be produced in perpetuity (not what I was saying btw) but we also can’t expect a company to host downloads in perpetuity either. Hence individual ownership to allow users to form communities and build archives outside of the corporations.
Those communities can then be protected and encouraged the way labor organization should be.

Right… the lack of making informed consumer decisions is the cause of the rise of fascism. Got it.
Are you saying that single issue voters are well informed? Lol. It’s the same mentality. If people informed themselves a little more they’d realize immigrants, trans folk, etc aren’t the problem. But it’s convenient to be told what to think by others.
And I mean physical games will just stop being made, so good luck keeping ownership of those.
Exactly what SKG and many others are/should be doing is pushing legislators for ownership and consumer rights.
I think the solution is to pirate, and start stockpiling memory.
Stockpile physical media too and ensure it’s preserved. And pivot your purchases to open hardware platforms (like PC) and platforms that better respect ownership (like GoG) to support them. Contribute to emulation and the cracking of games for preservation. It’s a yes, and situation.

Well first of all I mostly game on steam, pc and steamdeck. And I don’t even know how that would work with discs.
Disc drives. Usb or otherwise. If you’ve ever activated a game on steam using a keycode, steam supported activating cd keys as well. There would be a CD keycode provided along with the disc. This is similar to BluRay movies that would come with both a disc and a digital download available.
If we’re talking about cartridges, there’s also some projects working on this which could easily be added to future handheld pc releases.
And SSD for larger desktops in theory.
As for the rest, I don’t think you answered my question. I asked for pros and cons and I only see pros with a “I understand the cons” at the end without listing them.
But I do have a switch 2. Switched over from the switch 1, where I could just move my library over.
This one is heavily dependent on the corporation. Because switch 1 and 2 are essentially the same architecture, it’s similar to using your PS5 library on the PS5 Pro. There is no guarantee you will be able to do so in the next generation given digital keys. You actually allude to it yourself.
I even gave away my wiiu to my nephew with mostly digital games and he could just play them.
The Wii online game stores no longer exist similar to the DS game stores. Titles without physical releases simply no longer exist in most of these cases. And for your nephew to play these titles he has to use your hardware with your account. A digital only future with DRM protection would remove access in several ways, via an IP address change prompting a login, license changes or store server closures that would remove DRM auth keys when a title is launched, etc.
But yes, overall, you are correct, the rest of the reasons you list are isolation (not wanting to go to a store or discuss with others what games exist, instead using a storefront algorithm) or are out of laziness/impatience (waiting for a delivery, getting up off the couch, pressing a button.)
I doubt I would be able to convince you, so I will not try, but thank you for explaining. It helps the rest of us to understand the opinions of those who seek convenience over rights and freedom. You understood that you would be downvoted and that is because to us, your apathy and laziness is the same reason we also have a resurgence of fascism.
It’s a lack of empathy and selfishness focused purely on dopamine activation. We see someone empty of life and fulfilment as you’re not enjoying, reflecting, or introspecting on life or the gaming medium, you’re purely focused on self pleasure. That’s what we see and it’s both pity we feel and frustration as these actions and mentalities directly harm the rest of us, be it artists whose works are lost or individuals directly who lose access to art they purchased.
I’m reminded of a quote from Benjamin Franklin.
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
Liberty would be yours and my rights to ownership, the freedom to experience the medium and share it with others. And temporary safety is convenience.

Please list those pros and cons of digital and physical. I’d like to see the methodology here.

So don’t be cattle and give up ownership for convenience? Greedy corporations listen to one thing.
Physical is simply where more ownership tends to exist.
And if it doesn’t? Fuck your closed off platform, if I’m forced into digital, I can get it on PC with mods, version states, often better performance, and possibly even some levels of ownership if DRM free versions exist for purchase.
Make informed decisions. This is also why we’re loosing our freedoms to fascism around the world as we choose convenience over our freedoms and rights.

Leeja had a good video recently on how we find ourselves in the 3rd red scare and mentions how tied together the red and lavender scares were, an accusation of being a commie meant you were gay and vice versa.

Did that Yale study on universal healthcare saying it would save 114,000 lives a year factor in the Grand old Pedophile terrorist death cult cuts to our existing healthcare system? All the hospitals closing due to loss of funding? The deregulation of food and drug safety with all the recalls that will kill people? The data (pollution) centers that pollute…literally fucking everything, physical and metaphysical, resulting in debilitating physical and mental health issues?

They REALLY like their privacy

Unrelated, isn’t this so cute?

Because under neoliberal capitalism there are inherent contradictions. How it delivers “freedom” is via capital.
So there are two opposing freedoms, the freedom of a person and the freedom to grow capital.
Our system chose capital over people. So the man who exploits people’s healthcare as a business model resulting in tens of thousands of deaths each year is the hero. Because he grew so much capital.
CEOs are narcissistic unempathic mentally deficient pieces of filth. Exactly what capitalism rewards the most. Those willing to exploit others and the planet the most.
They have the ideology of rapists. Of course no one asked for it. Your consent was never a consideration. But don’t yell at the billionaire, you terrorists are hurting their property and the bottom line, boohoo, they’re the victim. Literal DARVO.

Since there are always people who, purposely or not, misrepresent what’s going on here and I’ve hashed it out in other threads I’ll paste it here as well as some links to share alternatives. Like, how do I see upvotes on a comment saying it’s a marxist far left party? The National Socialists also promised homes and dental and everything good for the Aryan race once they ethnically cleansed the rest. They certainly weren’t any kind of left wing.
Sorry for the wall of text, copying and pasting from some of my other comments, I’ll bold the main points to create the throughline:
What, by definition, constitutes fascism?
often Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition
At the core of fascism is loyalty to tribe, ethnic identity, religion, tradition, or, in a word, nation. —Jason Stanley
Just to make sure we’re not looking at a singular definition, let’s look at Wikipedia too
Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement that rose to prominence in early-20th-century Europe.[1][2][3] Fascism is characterized by support for a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.[3][4] Opposed to communism, democracy, liberalism, pluralism, and socialism,[5][6] fascism is at the far-right of the traditional left–right spectrum.[1][6][7]
And now, let’s look at what the Örebro party’s own stated platform, which received 72% of its funding from the Mullvad founder, which also amounted to 27 times their total funding in 2024, and has directly led to them stating that with this funding they can field candidates whereby they couldn’t previously:
Some of its key issues include strong secularism, a 30-hour workweek with retained pay, lowered wages for politicians, ending taxes on energy and fuel, ending taxpayer funding of what it sees as wasteful sculptures, monuments and art, large-scale remigration, expanded social housing, a stricter assimilation policy, and free dental care.[3][4]
https://www.friatider.se/markus-allard-om-andra-generationens-invandrare-de-ska-ocksa-ut
Örebro Party leader Markus Allard goes to the election on expulsions. He opens to withdraw citizenship and also expel second generation of immigrants – even if they were born in Sweden. “I’m prepared to cross corpses,” he said.
One suggestion that he has is that citizenship and permanent residence permits can be torn up – with reference to “Sweden is the country of Swedes”.
In a section of Yoshi’s Podcast, Allard develops his view on expulsions and explains that he prepared to “go over corpses” to bring home unwanted immigrants. The host notes that there will be no beautiful sight when, for example, immigrant mothers who have been on maternity leave for 15 years are to be deported together with their children. “It’s not going to be pretty to send these people home,” he said. Markus Allard agrees, but says: I think you can handle that optics. Even the children will need to be deported, he explains.
He further explains that many of the problems relate to second-generation immigrants. They are going out too. Even if they were born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedes. They have not become Swedes. It says Sweden in the passport, but they have not been interested in becoming part of Sweden. There’s a difference. It’s a qualitative difference," Allard said
And what’s remigration?
Remigration is a far-right concept referring to the ethnic cleansing[1] via mass deportation of non-white minority populations, especially immigrants and sometimes including native-born citizens, to their place of racial ancestry.[2][3]
So fascism is about racial and national purity and hierarchy, as we defined, and the Orebro party supports remigration, which is a concept of forcing immigrants out of countries to preserve the purity of “culture” and the race of the nation.
“Sweden is for the Swedes”
“Israel is for Israelis”
“America is for Americans”
“Germany is for the Germans”

Radical change requires radical action.
A system built to stall/slow progress to retain the levers of power rarely changes from within.
We, Americans, should know this better than most. We’ve grown up with it after all. Propaganda and platitudes are just the smokescreen for the corporate owner classes that own the levers of control.
Reformation always follows a revolutionary time (violent or not). They’re two sides of the same coin.
We’re literally fighting pedophiles and rapists in office (or those who share their ideologies of gaslighting and DARVO.) Do you think they take no for an answer?
We want bike lanes, public transit, better social services, parks, etc. Well, you have 623 pieces of paper to file, 221 meetings, 73 votes to collect…
Meanwhile, look how fast those Flock cameras went up with barely any approval. Look how fast those data centers got approved and built. Closed, backroom deals with no input, or even just mayors outright vetoing the town’s votes. They have the ideology of rapists.
And sitting here with all the reasons against us changes nothing.
I’m proud when they call us radical. Because we’re radically fighting to make people’s lives better. And the political mechanisms in place are designed to stop that. We live under neoliberal capitalism that is supposed to deliver us freedom and democracy. It has many underlying tensions. One is the freedom to grow capital vs the freedom of peoples. Our systems have been built on the freedom to grow capital OVER the freedom of peoples.
So the only way left for us to make change is to be disruptive. To get up and do something. And be willing to sacrifice for the greater good because the system is designed to take from us if we step out of line. It’s designed to protect those with capital over those who deserve justice.
Just do whatever you can. I realize it’s tough, I’m facing the same choices, putting food on the table, making sure my family is safe. But if we do nothing put complain and post online, what will we accomplish? Show your representatives that they should fear you. They are your employee, you pay them. Maybe stop paying them? Look at the war tax resistors for more info on that. Maybe protest in public spaces outside their residences and offices. Be a nuisance. Don’t let them rest. They won’t let you rest while they threaten our neighbors and our lives. And please, people, force some democracy into the workplace. We live most of our lives under these little kings. Force legislators to give us worker protections, amend the god damned constitution to give workers the protected right to strike.
I could go on and on…but vent over. I understand Canadians being frustrated, the world being frustrated, because I’m frustrated with how little Americans have accomplished so far. We’re angry but we’re still going to work and following the rules mostly because we’re still scared. We rely too much on the capitalist machine. Start getting involved locally and building alternatives to the reliance on big corpos as much as possible.
